Senior Database Engineer
KYM Advisors is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join our team. The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise databases and data warehouse solutions. This role ensures database systems are scalable, reliable, and optimized for performance. The Database Engineer III translates business and technical requirements into efficient data solutions, implements strategies for data acquisition and recovery, and collaborates across teams to support analytics, reporting, and operational needs.
Senior Database Engineer responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and implement database solutions to support business and technical requirements.
- Build and optimize data warehouse environments, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain database structures, objects, and schemas to support applications and analytics.
- Implement strategies for data acquisition, archiving, recovery, and backup.
- Monitor and improve database performance, availability, and security.
- Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and analysts to ensure effective data integration.
- Evaluate existing databases for reusability, optimization, and modernization opportunities.
- Maintain and improve metadata repositories and documentation for better management and accessibility.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues in production and development environments.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies, tools, and best practices.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in database engineering, administration, or related roles.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Experience working with data warehouses, ETL processes, and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable database solutions.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust. Note: A Public Trust Requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS/Redshift, Azure SQL, Google BigQuery).
- Familiarity with NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
- Knowledge of big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Strong knowledge of database security and compliance standards.

Compensation
The annual starting range for this position is $120,000 to $145,000. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of successful candidates.
